Privacy Policy for Elapsed

This Privacy Policy describes how Jonathan Maurice ("we", "us") collects, uses, and protects information when you use Elapsed (the "App").

1. Who we are

Elapsed is built and operated by Jonathan Maurice, an individual based in Quebec, Canada, who is the controller of the data described below.

2. What we collect

The App is designed to keep your data on your device. We do not collect:

Your name, email, or Apple ID
The names you give your counters
Notes or any text you type into the App
IDFA, advertising identifiers, or any cross-app tracking signal

We do collect anonymous product-interaction telemetry to understand how the App is used and improve it:

Event analytics. Structural events such as "counter created," "paywall viewed," or "purchase completed." Each event carries only non-identifying metadata (e.g., card style, source screen). Events never include the names of your counters, your log notes, or any text you have typed.
Session replay. Anonymized recordings of your interactions with the App's interface, used to diagnose UX issues. Text input fields and any view displaying counter names or log notes are masked at recording time; the unmasked content never leaves your device. Session replay does not record at all if your App Store account belongs to a storefront in the European Union, the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, or Switzerland. The recorder is never started on those storefronts, so nothing is captured, and the same applies when the App cannot determine your storefront.
Anonymous identifier. A randomly generated identifier assigned to each install. It is never connected to your identity, IDFA, or any other user-scoped identifier.

Because we do not track you across other apps or websites, the App does not use Apple's App Tracking Transparency permission and the ATT prompt is not shown.

3. Service providers

Analytics data is processed by Mixpanel (Mixpanel, Inc., USA) on servers in the United States. Their handling of data is governed by their own privacy policy: https://mixpanel.com/legal/privacy-policy. We disable Mixpanel's IP-based geolocation, so no approximate location is derived from or stored against your events.

In-app purchases are processed by Apple under their own terms. We never see your payment details.

4. Where data is stored and retained

Your counter data lives in your device's local on-device store and is not transmitted to us or synced to any server.

Anonymous analytics events are retained by Mixpanel per their data-retention policy.

5. Your rights under PIPEDA and Quebec Law 25

You have the right to:

Know what (anonymous) data has been collected from your install
Request that anonymous data linked to your install identifier be deleted from our analytics provider
Withdraw consent for further analytics collection at any time, including by uninstalling the App
File a complaint with the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada or the Commission d'accès à l'information du Québec

6. Your rights in the EEA, the United Kingdom, and Switzerland

If you are in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, or Switzerland, the following applies to the limited data described in section 2.

Legal basis. We process anonymous product-interaction telemetry under our legitimate interest in understanding how the App is used and improving it (Article 6(1)(f) GDPR and its UK and Swiss equivalents). We do not process special categories of data, and we never use this data for advertising, profiling, or automated decision-making.

No session recording. As stated in section 2, session replay does not record on these storefronts.

Your rights. You may request access to, correction of, or deletion of the data associated with your install identifier, ask us to restrict processing, object to processing, or ask for a copy in a portable format. Because we hold no information that identifies you, we may need the install identifier before we can locate anything; where we cannot connect data to you, we may be unable to act on a request (Article 11 GDPR).

International transfers. Analytics data is transferred to and processed in the United States by Mixpanel, as described in section 3.

Complaints. You may lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority: in the United Kingdom, the Information Commissioner's Office; in Switzerland, the Federal Data Protection and Information Commissioner; elsewhere, the supervisory authority of your country.

7. Privacy officer

For the purposes of Quebec's Act respecting the protection of personal information in the private sector (Law 25), the person responsible for the protection of personal information is Jonathan Maurice (support@mauricehq.com).

8. Children

Elapsed is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.

9. Changes to this policy

If we make material changes to this policy, we will update the "Effective date" above and post the revised version at this URL.
